Stobist in the garage pt1

Spent some time mucking around with some lighting setups I want to use for a portrait series.

I'm short any real lighting modifiers, so I pulled a mcnally and got myself a $2.50 plastic tablecloth and hung it camera left to diffuse things a bit.

Jump shots and cheesy grins included free.

Cliches 3

Went for a walk yestrday...
Haven't used the 70-300 for a while so I did a bit fair bit of macro work with it.

All very cliche, but I had some fun.

Late night and a 50mm

On a whim, I just grabbed my camera with the 50mm (I'm liking this lens more and more) and took some pictures around the house.
Nothing spectatular, but something different.

My photography's been flatlining a bit lately...
I don't feel like I've really extended myself for a while.

I've been shooting new stuff, but not trying to shoot in new ways.

This was a good excercise, it tried to get me to look past the brightest parts of the room if that makes sense....

Also, I'm planing to start practising some strobist style lighting soon...

Uni holidays are approaching, and I want to get out there and start taking some polished shots. Build a portfolio. Get a proper website up. I have a lot of ideas bouncing around in my head. I want to get out there and get things happening. Get up at 5am to shoot some landscapes. Flex those creative muscles that have been lacking for a while.

I saw some phonomenal sites tonight too... amazing work.

It just inspires me more.

Pirates Filming Day

Recently I've been involved with a local group called the "Manly Musical Society"

Thy're putting on the G+S show "The Pirates of Penzance" november 20th - 22 and 26 - 28th at "The Star of the Sea Theatre" on Manly beach.

I took some photos for them during a fliming day around Manly and the city, the brief was "pseudo 1930's/40's", and had fun with the cast (who are a fantastic group of people, and even better singers). Had a great day, and I can wholehearted reccomend seeing the show.

In other news, I'm up to image number 8500 on my camera current camera, which officialy means I've taken 10 000 photos by my reckoning.
